About TuneKite
Last updated October 22, 2026
TuneKite is a set of free music tools that open instantly in the browser: a metronome, a chromatic tuner, a guitar, ukulele and piano chord library, a virtual piano, ear training and practical guides. No app, no account, in twelve languages.
It is built for people who play: the tool comes first on the page, large enough to use on a music stand, and the explanations follow underneath.
How the tools work
The metronome schedules every click on the browser’s audio clock in advance, counting from the start rather than adding beat to beat, so it does not drift.
The tuner measures pitch on your device with the McLeod Pitch Method, a well-tested algorithm for musical notes, and shows the distance from the nearest note in cents. The audio never leaves your device.
Chord shapes, note names, keys and progressions come from our own music-theory engine, which builds every chord from its intervals and checks every guitar and ukulele shape against playability rules. The shapes were cross-checked against an open chord database during development. Note names follow each language’s convention: B and H in German, Do Ré Mi in French, Italian and Spanish.
The piano uses recordings of a real grand piano (see the credits page); guitar and ukulele chords are played by a synthesizer we wrote, so no recordings of other people’s playing are used.
Where the theory comes from
Pitches use twelve-tone equal temperament with A4 = 440 Hz, the international concert pitch standard (ISO 16). Chord spellings, intervals and key signatures follow standard Western music theory as taught in conservatory harmony textbooks. Tempo markings use commonly cited ranges, which we state as approximate because reference works differ.
No song chords, no lyrics
TuneKite does not publish chords, tabs or lyrics of songs, and does not name songs anywhere on the site. Song arrangements and lyrics belong to their authors. Everything here is general music knowledge: chords, scales, keys and techniques that anyone can apply to the music they love.
How we make money
TuneKite is free. In the future it may show a small number of ads, placed away from the tools and never while the metronome or tuner is running. There are no paid placements or sponsored content.
Who runs it
TuneKite is run by the operator of tunekite.com, an independent sole trader based in Poland. Questions and corrections: contact@tunekite.com.
