The microphone is blocked

The browser did not let the tuner hear you. You can allow it again in a few taps, or tune by ear with the reference notes.

From standard tuning to Low G

  1. Lower string 4 from G₄ to G₃: an octave down.
  2. Leave strings 3, 2, 1 as they are.
  3. Check every string once more with the tuner: changing the tension of some strings pulls the others slightly.

About Low G

Low G replaces the high G4 string of standard ukulele tuning with a G3 an octave lower, so the strings rise steadily from G to A, like a small guitar. It extends the range downwards by five notes, which fingerstyle and jazz players use for bass lines and fuller chords. The chord shapes are exactly the same as in standard tuning. You need a special, thicker (often wound) low-G string; tightening a normal G string will not get it there.

Tuning tips

Strings need a little time to settle into Low G. Tune every string once, play for a minute, then tune them all again: the second pass is usually only a few cents and holds much longer.

Use Auto mode: the tuner already knows the notes of Low G and picks the nearest string. If a string is far off, tap its chip to lock it in Manual mode, then turn the peg until the needle centres.
